Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a style of martial arts that focuses on using body leverage to control and subdue an opponent using holds, pins, locks and takedowns. There is no striking in grappling. Similar to wrestling, the grappling classes cover all the skills you need to control a fight in close quarters. On the ground, we transition and escape from weaker positions to more dominant positions, and also control and maintain a strong position to execute holds, locks and submissions.
What’s a class like?
In our BJJ sessions, we take you through holds, escapes, transitions, submissions and various other drills that teach you the fundamentals.  We also spend a section of the class rolling (controlled sparring) to hone and sharpen our techniques using resistance from our partners.
BJJ is a great way to develop sensitivity to our bodies and that of our partners through learning how to control and maneuver smoothly in the grapple.  Groundwork strengthens all parts of your body. For smaller bodies, grappling teaches you how to work when weight and size is used against you.
